Doctor by day, author by night
Doctoring patients for forty years, I’ve acquired inspiring stories and life lessons from my patients. I captured these stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul, and then into a book entitled, Patients I Will Never Forget.
When I observed how overwhelmed the caregivers of my patients with Alzheimer’s Disease were, I began a 2-year quest to learn everything I could about taking care of loved ones with dementia. I read dozens of books and scholarly journals, interviewed nurses and caregivers at nursing homes and Abe’s Garden (a top memory-care center in Nashville). I then collaborated with Sue Pace Bell, a woman who had successfully taken care of both her mother and husband with dementia, to write The Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiver’s Handbook: What to Remember When They Forget. The book is now available from Amazon in both paperback and e-book format. Ironically, the book came in handy for me personally when my 98-year old mother, who now lives with me, developed Alzheimer’s. Nothing like first-hand experience!
Needing a break from the scholarly research, I released a clean romantic comedy called Can You Lose the Unibrow? The novel features a frumpy 40-year-old female doctor delving into the shark tank of online dating. This is the first in series featuring female doctors called Ladies in Lab Coats. The second novel, More Than a Hunch, is a romantic suspense, where an oncologist gets suspected on poisoning a batch of chemotherapy and has to prove her innocence. The third novel, Hearts heal in Haiti, tells the story of two surgical residents facing the challenges or practicing medicine in the boonies of Haiti.
My current work in progress is called Ten Things Every Doctor Wished You Knew.
